Introduction to a Girl Named Bailey

Hello!

My name is Bailey Looper and I am currently a Junior at the University of Oklahoma studying computer engineering. The coolest thing about my major, in my personal (not YET professional) opinion, is that it is a blend between two majors, Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. I deal with both software and hardware, giving me a sense of flexibility when choosing what I wish to pursue as a career. The best class I took last semester was Circuits 2. Not only did I find the professor's teaching style to be extremely compatible with my learning style, but it was a very rewarding class. I was able to get a sense of fulfillment after completing homework, exams, and projects. I felt like I was really learning despite the online barrier, which is not something I cannot say for all of the classes I took last semester. My biggest accomplishment last semester was maintaining a 4.0 GPA and securing a Software Engineering Internship for the Summer of 2021 with Northrop Grumman, an aerospace and defense technology company. (Side note: feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn).

Anyway, enough about school and work. I've introduced you to the Bailey that professors, recruiters, and many of my peers know me as. Let me introduce you to the Bailey that my close friends know me as.

When I'm not busy being consumed by the work that school requires of me, I love to read, watch movies and TV shows, and listen to music. Over Winter Break I did quite a bit of reading, but I had a few favorites. Some of these include A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara, Vicious by V.E. Schwab (I'm currently reading the second book in this series, Vengeful), Daisy Jones & The Six, and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, both by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I Highly recommend all of these! I also started a few TV shows, including Community and Schitt's Creek, both extremely funny shows. Some of my all-time favorite movies are About Time, I, Tonya, Booksmart, The Virgin Suicides, and Thoroughbreds. And I love too much music to specify any favorites, instead, I'll just link my January 2021 Spotify Playlist, I make a new playlist each month and many in between.

I also have a pet Goldendoodle whom I love dearly. Her name is Baker Mae (yes after Baker Mayfield, no I didn't name her). She is pictured with me below. I've been known to post about her far too much, or so my friends tell me. It's a running joke amongst us.

Well, that's all for now. There is of course more to know about me, but what you've just read is the highlight real.

  1. Hi Bailey!

My parents originally wanted me to become a Engineering major, but I quickly realized that it was not my calling so mad respects to you. I also know there are not a lot of women in that field so power through.

I also really enjoyed the movie I, Tonya too. Margo Robbie played that role so compellingly and I fell in love with her.

  2. Hello Bailey!

Very cool introduction and nice major choice. I have enjoyed learning computer programming skills (took 3 years of classes in high school and then some; believe it or not I still use that knowledge often today for physics projects), and I'm currently studying astrophysics here at OU so I must say I am jealous of your internship with Northrop Grumman. I hope it goes well for you.

By the way, great dog picture!

  3. Hi Bailey!

It's awesome you picked such a prestigious major! I could not do it so props to you!! You seem like you love it and are pretty passionate about doing it which I think for a major that can be so difficult, is so great! Also amazing books and Shows list, I'm the exact same way so I loved finding another blog post that was similar to me! Of course I can't not mention how adorable your dog is. She's absolutely beautiful and sounds like she's your best friend. I hope you post more about her!!

  4. Hi Bailey,

So excited to see another Shitt's Creek lover in this class! I love making Spotify playlists too and I will for sure give yours a listen! I think your love of reading and stories will definitely make you well equipped to handle this class, and I'm excited to read some of your work this upcoming semester. Also your dog is literally adorable, and I love her energy! I had a mini poodle up until this last year when he unfortunately passed away, but dogs are really the solution to so many problems in life! A blessing!

  5. Hey Bailey! Congrats on getting that internship :) My brother has actually been interning at Northrop Grumman for about 2 years now and he seems to enjoy it, so I hope you do too! I love seeing other Community fans in the wild. Troy and Abed are probably my favorite TV duo. I've heard a lot of great things about Schitt's Creek and should probably start that show soon. About Time is also one of my favorite movies as well and it's wild that you mentioned it because I feel like not many people talk about it! I'm on a journey to get back into reading so I will definitely be looking into your suggested books. Your dog is so cute, she definitely deserves being posted about all the time!

  6. Hi Bailey, nice to meet you! It's cool to see someone land an internship at Northrop Grumman, as I grew up extremely interested in aviation and learned about the planes produced by Northrop. Good luck in your future endeavors with them! I've heard a lot of good things about Schitt's Creek but I haven't had time to watch it since my roommates and I have been keeping up with New Girl instead. Honestly I've never seen a single movie off your favorites list, but I, Tonya seems like a real hit considering it's starring Margot Robbie.

  7. Hi Bailey, I liked learning about you in this post! Congrats on keeping a 4.0 as an engineer—most of my friends major in engineering, so I know how hard it can be. I've been wanting to read Daisy Jones & The Six too. Did you enjoy it? I sadly didn't have much time to read over break since I was taking an intersession course. Also, your dog is so cute!

  8. Hello Bailey, nice to meet you and if I could "like" your dog pic I %100 would, lol. Big props on keeping a 4.0 as an engineer! My roommate is a senior CS major and I see how difficult some of those courses can be! Good luck the rest of the semester and I hope the internship opens doors to a successful career!

  9. Hi Bailey, based off the introduction it seems like you are a real slacker lol. Congratulations on the 4.0 that is no easy feat considering your area of concentration. I am a big fan of sitcoms, so I am only familiar with Schitt's Creek on your list and wanted to let you know I found it to be funny too. Give Seinfeld and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia a shot!

  10. Hi Bailey!
My boyfriend is a mechanical engineering major, and I actually sat in his circuits class a couple of times, and I'm just going to say based off of that you must be incredibly smart because that information was WAY over my head. Congratulations on the upcoming internship! Also, I'm in love with your puppy and Baker is the perfect name as I'm in love with Baker Mayfield!

  11. That picture of you and Baker is so cute, Bailey! I've heard so many things about Goldendoodles; they sound like very sweet dogs. And how cool that you are doing both computer science and electrical engineering. Maybe sometime this semester you will play around with Twine, which is a free programming language to create branching stories; it's really simple but you can do some really fun stuff with it too. In the past I just did maze-style games, but finally last semester I learned how to use variables to keep score and make it more like a game. Here's my Anansi Game if you are curious: Anansi Game link. :-)
And this is now the third time that I've heard someone recommend About Time... which I have not seen! So I will obey the folkloric rule of three and try to watch that movie this weekend: it sounds really cool!

  12. Hi Bailey,
Three of my roommates are engineering major and I've seen the amount of work they have. I admire you for sticking to it with the amount of work it has and congrats on the 4.0! I see that you are a big reader with amount of books you linked. I used to be a big reader too in middle school but then I stopped. I haven't pick up a book in awhile and I want to once I'm done studying for the MCAT. Good luck with this semester and your dog is so cute! Tell her I said hi!

  13. Hi Bailey,
I have to admit, I am somewhat at a loss for what to comment. I have never seen the shows and movies you like, and I have not read the books. I checked your playlist and did not find any songs or artists I recognized, although that's on me for listening to obscure genres like Celtic punk and occult folk. Your dog looks cute. Do animals usually like you? For some reason they tend to like me, especially crows. The crows on campus follow me sometimes.

  14. Hi Bailey! I enjoyed reading your introduction and much respect to you for your major as I have heard that it is definitely not easy. I am a Computer Science major and I know just how hard some of those courses can be, so having a 4.0 last semester is super impressive. I hope you have good luck on your internship and your future ventures!

  15. Bailey,

That's so awesome that you are passionate about your major. I also love how you talked about Circuits 2 and how you found it very rewarding. There are definitely some classes at OU where when you are taking the class and take tests and quizzes that it feels very rewarding to know that you were able to do that. I also love your transition to a more personal introduction about you. You seem very nice, and it sounds like you will go far! Hope your semester is going well!

  16. Hi Bailey!
Kudos to you for completing your major! I created my major as a blend of two majors, so I completely get the idea of having two , but mine are between psychology and biology, so they're very different from your area of studies! I did some work with circuits in physics 2 and that was enough to tell me that it's extremely hard. Good luck with your studies!

  17. Howdy Bailey!
Congratulations on your internship and congratulations on the 4.0 (I lost mine a while ago courtesy of my honors colloquium). Computer engineering sounds really cool! I could never really get the hang of programming or circuitry so I know I couldn't cut it in either of the majors that blend to make computer engineering, much less computer engineering itself. I wish you the best of luck in your studies and the rest of your semester!

  18. Hi Bailey!
I wanted to start by saying how adorable your dog is! I love doodle breeds, they are so cute. Also, way to go on your 4.0 and internship! Those are wonderful accomplishments. I tried a computer programming course a few years ago, I just could not understand it. The field of computer engineering has always seemed cool to me but I can't hang. I hope you have a wonderful semester!

  19. Hi Bailey! Just followed your spotify profile... hope that's okay! I find myself stuck listening to the same songs LOL, so hopefully your playlists can help me discover some new tunes. What a cool major!! Okay honestly, I know zero about computers so uh, to me I think "how in the world did people combine materials from the earth and make it do THIS." It's so super duper cool.
